With ‘Keto’ it is all about a healthy way of life. Low-carbohydrate and high-fat food is an important part of this. But not as a diet. It is not ‘eating differently’ to lose some weight and then do what you have always done. Not if you want to keep that weight at least. And, more importantly, your improved health.
Low-carbohydrate and high-fat food is not a diet at all. Not like standard ‘waste diets’. You don’t have to limit your calories at all. On the contrary. If you are hungry you must eat until you are satisfied. You don’t have to count and weigh. Let go of the diet mentality and trust your own body.
No diet but a lifestyle
Staying healthier or slimmer is a choice. A choice to do things differently. If you continue to eat what you always ate and if you continue to do what you always did, the result will remain the same.
Therefore see low carbohydrate and high-fat food as a conscious choice to eat healthier. Not just today. Also tomorrow and the day after.
As you feel better and more energetic, you will often feel like moving more. To live healthier. Then it becomes a lifestyle. Something that suits you and that makes you happy. Get energy from it. Then you don’t want to go back at all. And it doesn’t matter that it takes a little longer before you reach your goals. Until you lose all the pounds too much. After all, you have all the time.
How do you make it a lifestyle?
It is all easily said. But perhaps not so easy for everyone. We are so used to fast solutions. Immediate results. To diets. And of course you have to invest in it. It does not happen automatically. But there are some things you can do. That help you on your way. Which make it easier to sustain. So that you do not give up when things are not going well. Or if it doesn’t go as fast as you thought.
Collect information
It helps enormously if you know why you do this. That starts with good information. Know what this lifestyle has to offer you. How much healthier it is to eat like this. For the short, but certainly also for the longer term. Search for people, books, scientific studies, web sites, Facebook groups, etc. whose information you trust. Because there is a lot of conflicting information. It may take a while, but at some point the puzzle pieces will fall into place. You will know what you should and should not believe. At least that’s how it went with me.
Set yourself a goal
Then ask yourself why you want to do this. If you want to lose weight, think about what else you want to achieve. A higher goal. Something you can focus on, even if the scale is not moving yet. Maybe you want more energy. Fewer medicines. Better cholesterol levels. Less pain. Lower blood pressure. Being able to think more clearly. Protect yourself from all kinds of (chronic) welfare diseases. Addressing fertility problems. A healthy pregnancy. Radiant skin. Being cheerful again instead of being depressed. Being able to move more. Sleep better. Staying mentally fit as you get older. Cook healthier. More enjoy real and unprocessed food.
Then get started with your new, healthy low-carb and high-fat way of eating. Know that the beginning can be difficult and then continue. By the way, you don’t necessarily have to jump in full. Immediately delete ‘all’ carbohydrates and change 180 degrees. You can also take it easy. Make a soft landing. You can read more about that in the blog ‘Forever keto’. But I’m still working on that.
Keep your goal in mind and focus on positive things. Write it down too. Preferably daily. Don’t necessarily think big. Small things are good too. take a look for low carbohydrate Keto Products.
You will probably find that your attention automatically goes to something else. That it has become a matter of course. That is the moment that it has become a habit. Something you fully support yourself. What you feel comfortable with. Not a diet, but a choice. A lifestyle. Time for a new project 😉.
Healthy and on weight
Once you have achieved your health and weight goals, a new period will follow. Then you can start experimenting. See which healthy carbohydrates you can re-introduce, without affecting your health or your weight. That way you don’t have to deny yourself certain food unnecessarily. Things that might be very healthy for you. Or who make it easier to last for the rest of your life.
